Pesarattu (Green Moong Dal Crepe) Recipe

Pesarattu is a healthy and protein-rich South Indian crepe made from whole green moong dal. It is a popular dish from Andhra Pradesh served for breakfast with ginger or coconut chutney. Green moong dal is rich in nutrients, making it a very nutritious bun for us. It looks like a dosa but unlike dosa, it does not require fermentation. It can be made in a jiffy. It is very easy to make, let's see how to make it:



Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole green moong dal

  • 2 tbsp rice (optional, for crispiness)

  • 1-inch ginger (grated)

  • 2 green chilies (chopped)

  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1/2 tsp salt (or as per taste)

  • 1/2 cup water (as needed)

  • cooking Oil 

Optional Toppings:

  • 1 small finely chopped onion 

  • 1 tbsp grated carrot

  • 1 tbsp chopped green chilies


Pesarattu (Green Moong Dal Crepe) Recipe

Method of making Pesarattu:

  • To make the batter, wash green moong dal and rice and soak them in water for 6-8 hours or overnight.

  • To make the batter, drain the water. After this, add ginger, green chillies, coriander, cumin seeds and salt and make a smooth batter like dosa. If needed, you can add water to it.

  • To make Pesarattu, heat a pan and apply light oil on it.

  • Now pour a ladle of batter on the pan and spread it in a circular motion to make a thin crepe.

  • If you want, you can add chopped onion, grated carrot, and green chilies on top.

  • Drizzle some oil on the edges and cook on medium flame for 2-3 minutes, until golden brown.

  • Flip it and cook till it is cooked on both sides.

  • After cooking, serve it hot with ginger chutney, coconut chutney.
