How to make Kachumber Salad


Kachumber Salad is a refreshing and simple salad made with chopped vegetables like cucumber, tomato, onion, and lemon juice. It is easy to make and is naturally vegetarian and crunchy, adding a refreshing touch to any meal. Let's see how to make it for 4 people.

Ingredients to make Kachumber Salad:

  • 1 large cucumber, finely chopped

  • 2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped

  • 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped 

  • 1 medium carrot, grated (optional)

  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped

  • 1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves, finely chopped

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (adjust to taste)

  • 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon black salt or regular salt (adjust to taste)

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder

  • A pinch of chaat masala (optional)



Method of Making Kachumber Salad:

  • First of all, wash and finely chop the cucumber, tomato, onion, and green chili. You can also use the cucumber peeled.

  • If you want, you can also use a carrot by grating or finely chopping it. You can also add capsicum and radish to the salad for a nice crunch and taste.

  • Take a large mixing bowl. Add all the chopped vegetables to it. Add chopped coriander and mint leaves to it and mix all the ingredients well.

  • Add lemon juice, roasted cumin powder, black salt, and black pepper powder to it and mix well again.

  • If you like a more spicy and tangy taste, you can sprinkle a pinch of chaat masala.

  • Place the salad in a serving bowl and garnish with some extra chopped coriander leaves.

  • You can eat it as whole or even have it as a side dish with a full meal.

  • You can add more vegetables like radish, capsicum, or boiled corn kernels to make it more colorful and nutritious.

  • If you don't like spicy food, skip the green chilies.

  • To eat a chilled salad, refrigerate the veggies for 15-20 minutes before tossing them with salt and lemon juice.

  • Being a rich vegetable content, this can be a good option for weight loss.
