How to cook Bhindi Masala

Bhindi is made in many ways. One of the famous Indian recipes of Bhindi is Bhindi Masala. Let us know how it is made:



Ingredients of making Bhindi masala:

  • 500g okra (bhindi), washed, dried, and cut into 1-inch pieces

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped

  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Garlic paste 

  • 2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped

  • 2-3 green chilies, chopped (optional, adjust to taste)

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder

  • 1 teaspoon garam masala

  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)

  • 1/2 teaspoon Kasuri methi

  • Salt, to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)



Method of making Bhindi Masala :

  • Wash the Bhindi, dry it well, and chop it into small pieces.

  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large pan, add the Bhindi pieces, and fry for about 8-10 minutes. Remove it from the pan when it turns light brown and keep it aside.



Prepare the Onion Tomato Masala:

  • In the same pan, heat 1 tbsp oil.

  • Add cumin seeds in oil and fry for a few seconds till the aroma comes out.

  • Now add chopped onions to it and fry till it turns golden brown.

  • Now add ginger garlic and green chilies to it and mix well. Cook it till the raw flavor goes away.

  • Now add chopped tomatoes to it and cook till it becomes soft. Add half a cup of water to it and mix well so that the masala does not burn.

  • Add dry spices- turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt- and mix it well. Add some water and cook the masala well.

  • After cooking the masala, add the roasted Bhindi to it and mix well.

  • Now add kasuri methi and chopped coriander over the bhindi masala and mix well. You can have it with roti, paratha or rice.


How to cook Bhindi Masala


Tips:


  • Avoid stickiness: Make sure the bhindi is completely dry before cutting and do not stir it too much while cooking, so that it does not become sticky.

  • Spice level: Adjust the spice level as per your taste by modifying the amount of green chilies and red chili powder.
