Saag Paneer recipe Easy and Tasty

Saag paneer is a classic Indian dish made with fresh spinach and paneer, cooked in a mildly spiced, creamy sauce. This dish is nutritious and delicious. It contains a variety of nutrients. It is very easy to make. Let's see how it is made:



Ingredients:

For the Saag (Greens):


  • 200 g spinach leaves (palak)

  • 100 g mustard greens (sarson) or fenugreek leaves (methi) (optional)

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves 

  • 2 green chilies

  • 1 tsp ginger, grated

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • 1/2 cup water

For the Paneer:

  • 200 g paneer, cut into cubes

  • 1 tbsp oil or ghee (for frying, optional)

For the Tempering:

  • 2 tbsp butter or ghee

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1-inch piece of ginger, minced

  • 1 medium tomato, finely chopped

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • 1/2 tsp garam masala

  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder 

  • Salt to taste

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or fresh cream

Method of making Saag Paneer:

  • Firstly, prepare the greens. For this, wash the spinach and mustard greens thoroughly.

  • Boil the greens with green chilies, ginger, garlic and water for 5-7 minutes till it becomes soft.

  • Let it cool a little and make a smooth or slightly thick paste and keep it aside.

  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and lightly fry the paneer pieces till they become golden on all sides. Remove and keep it aside.

  • Heat butter and oil in a pan on medium flame.

  • Add cumin seeds to it and let it crackle.

  • Now add chopped garlic, ginger and chopped onion to it. Fry it till it becomes golden.

  • After this, add turmeric, coriander powder, red chili powder and garam masala to it and stir and cook for a few minutes.

  • Now add chopped tomatoes to it and cook till the mixture becomes soft and the oil starts separating.

  • Add mixed greens paste to it and mix well. After this, add cream and salt as per taste and boil for 5-7 minutes. If the gravy is very thick then add water as per requirement.

  • Now add paneer pieces and mix and cook for few minutes.

  • Serve hot saag with naan, roti or basmati rice.
